Blat Bastards

Pre-Hibernation Punt Run

Fast Facts

  • The whole point of this one is to make the most of that late-autumn window where it’s cool enough to feel like a proper ride, but not yet so bloody cold that everyone is questioning their life choices by the first fuel stop. Good roads, good scenery, a bit of variety each day, and enough distance to feel like we’ve actually gone somewhere.

  • Ride date: 22 May 2026
  • Region: Blue Mountains / Hawkesbury
  • Distance: ~1200 km
  • Duration: Weekend
  • Surface: Mixed
  • Meeting point: Eagle Hawk Hotel
  • Departure time: 1200

ℹ️ Ride Details

Friday β€” Canberra to Katoomba

Canberra → Tarago → Goulburn → Taralga → Mount Victoria→ Katoomba (Approx. 350 km)

This is the opener, so the idea is to get clear of Canberra, settle into the ride properly and enjoy the run without turning Saturday into a marathon. We’ll be implementing the usual “avoid highways” mantra and going backroads where possible. While the current ‘stands up’ time is 1200 Friday, we may look to move sooner so as to take in the sights of the Blue Mountains before it gets dark.

Saturday β€” Blue Mountains, Putty Road to Wisemans Ferry

Katoomba β†’ Upper Colo β†’ Putty β†’ Broke β†’ St Albans β†’ Wisemans Ferry β†’ St Leonards
(Approx. 425 km)

From Katoomba, we’ll head out of the mountains and across to the Upper Colo and jump onto the Putty Road, through to Broke (hopefully the Boys in Blue haven’t sent us Broke by then!). From there, we’ll head south into the Hawkesbury to St Albans, then through Wisemans Ferry.

Much of this route is covered in these two “Top Roads” posts:

Overnight will be in St Leonards.

Sunday β€” Back to Canberra via Macquarie Pass, Kangaroo Valley and Cambewarra

St Leonards β†’ Royal National Park β†’ Sea Cliff Bridge β†’ Macquarie Pass β†’ Kangaroo Valley β†’ Cambewarra β†’ Nerriga β†’ Braidwood β†’ Captains Flat β†’ Canberra (Approx. 425 km)

Planning to run through the Royal National Park and out to the Sea Cliff Bridge near Wollongong. From there, we’ll head up to Macquarie Pass, Kangaroo Valley and Cambewarra; attempting to finish the route from the previous ride that got deviated due to poor weather.

Once we get to Nerriga, it’ll be a discussion point; south to Braidwood and around through to Captains Flat and home (as mapped), or straight through to Tarago, Bungendore and home. Ultimately it’ll depend on weather and how tired people are feeling.
